L-1500 Multifuel Furnace
The L-1500 combustor is capable
of firing natural gas and/or pulverized coal at a rate of 1.5 MW (5.1
MMBtu/hr). The facility is designed to simulate low emission, pulverized
coal-fired boilers and has a 1.1m by 1.1m internal cross-section and is
13.1m in length. The facility is also capable of oxy-coal firing.
Capabilities
- Air or oxy-firing
- Continuous emissions monitoring equipment for real-time measurement of O2, CO2, CO, NOx, SO2, and total hydrocarbon emissions, with other species-based measurements available upon request
- Detailed particulate measurement, including ultrafine particles
- Single- and multi-burner (3) configurations
Research
- NOx reduction via burner modification, staging, reburning, selective non-catalytic reduction, selective catalytic reduction
- Corrosion/deposition
- Oxyfuel firing
- Emissions of NOx, SO2, PM and toxics
- Fuel additives and fuel blending
- Co-firing with biomass
The L-1500's ancillary equipment includes:
- 1500 kW (5.1 MMBtu/hr) dual-register low-NOx swirl burner
- Air preheat system to heat secondary and tertiary combustion air to 430°C (800°F)
- Solid feeding system for pulverized coal including: feeders, hoppers, and educators
- 184 m3/min (6500 CFM) wet venturi scrubber
- Pulsed-jet baghouse and flue gas recirculation capability
- 400-ton cooling tower and shell-and-tube heat exchanger for indirect cooling of flue gases
